SUMMARY:The Impacts of GenAI on Learning: Early Findings & Implications for Teaching
DESCRIPTION:Does generative AI help or hinder learning? Is the answer more complicated? During this interactive session\, we will explore early research surrounding generative artificial intelligence and what it suggests about designing learning experiences that support student learning in the current GenAI landscape. We’ll also have a special guest presentation by a faculty member who will demo using GenAI to complete a task\, applicable to our discussions of whether these technologies can help or hinder learning. This session can be used toward Competency 2 of the Teaching & Generative Artificial Intelligence Pathway Series. \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Generative AI Explorations: LearnLM
DESCRIPTION:Generative AI Exploration sessions are interactive experiences supporting instructors in developing an understanding of various GenAI technologies and their implications in teaching and beyond.  \nDuring this session\, we will explore Google’s experimental model LearnLM. Google indicates that: “LearnLM is our new family of models fine-tuned for learning and grounded in educational research to make teaching and learning experiences more active\, personal and engaging.” We will also discuss Google’s white paper Towards Responsible Development of Generative AI for Education: An Evaluation-Driven Approach which participants are welcome to review in advance of the session but not required.  \nThis session can be used toward Competency 1 of the Teaching & Generative Artificial Intelligence Pathways. \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Active Learning Online: 101
DESCRIPTION:Teaching in the online environment means working with a new toolbox in order to help students achieve your learning goals. This 90-minute workshop\, led by University Online Education Services (UOES)\, will focus on key considerations to keep in mind when planning active learning experiences online. \nAttendees will explore practical strategies to make optimal use of synchronous and asynchronous time\, various tools available for each approach\, and best practices for using these tools effectively to support student learning.  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Peer Review of Teaching using the Critical Teaching Behaviors Framework (Virtual Interactive Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Peer review of teaching is an important part of the advancement\, reappointment\, and promotion process for instructors of all ranks. This workshop is primarily designed to prepare reviewers tasked with conducting peer review of teaching\, but instructors preparing to be observed may also find this session helpful. We will introduce the Critical Teaching Behaviors Framework and show how it can be used to facilitate peer review of teaching. If you wish to attend the workshop or to receive the video recording after the workshop\, please register. \nFacilitated by the Office of Teaching Evaluation and Assessment Research (OTEAR) \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Using the Rutgers Guidelines for Presenting Evidence of Effective Teaching (Virtual Interactive Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore the Guidelines for Effective Teaching\, which adopts a framework showing what effective teaching looks like and encourages faculty to present evidence that shows their strengths across all aspects of teaching. As part of this session\, participants evaluate samples of evidence and brainstorm what sources of evidence they can muster to build their promotion packets. This workshop is intended for all instructors presenting evidence for effective teaching. Please register to attend or receive the recording. \nOffered by the Office of Teaching Evaluation and Assessment Research \nREGISTER
