SUMMARY:The Environmental Impact of AI
DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore the environmental impact of generative AI\, from the electricity and water that data centers consume to the pressure they put on power grids and the communities where they are built. \nWe will examine what the current evidence shows about the scale of that impact. You’ll also learn how your own choices as a user\, what you use AI for and how\, factor into that picture. This workshop will give you the grounding to weigh AI’s environmental costs against its benefits\, both in your own work and as an informed participant in a growing public debate. \nThis session fulfills Competency 3 of the Teaching and Generative AI Pathways Program and is open to Rutgers University staff and instructors of all ranks\, appointment types\, and disciplines. \nPresented by Karina Schäfer (RU-N Environmental Science) & Joanne Dera (Science Librarian). \nREGISTER \nEvent URL will be sent via registration email.
