Looking to boost your knowledge and improve your teaching skills? Each semester, TIIP offers workshops covering a wide range of topics to assist both graduate TAs and postdocs with their continued teaching development. These free, interactive sessions are designed and led by the Graduate Student Coordinator team.

When you attend multiple workshops, you will be on the path to earning a teaching-focused certificate which you can put on your curriculum vitae. We offer two Certificate Programs:

  • Improving Your Classroom Skills
  • Teaching with Technology

The Certificate Programs are designed with a framework that integrates evidence-based pedagogy with intentional, reflective practice. Participants will learn about the foundational knowledge and skills in course design, practical tips and strategies for navigating the college classroom, and purposeful decision-making about instructional technologies.

Workshop event descriptions always list which certificate program is associated with a given workshop. Topics vary each semester.

Students who attend and participate in at least 4 workshop sessions pertaining to a certificate program can earn a certificate. Attendance is confirmed with the feedback survey distributed at the end of each workshop. There is no deadline for earning a certificate, so you may complete your 4 workshops in one semester or over the course of several semesters. Students may earn one certificate per series.

After you have attended 4 workshop sessions for a certificate program, please email GradTeaching@rutgers.edu to be issued a certificate.

Improving Your Classroom Skills

The Improving Your Classroom Skills certificate program is composed of workshops that focus on foundational knowledge and skills in teaching. Topics covered in recent semesters range from tips for starting as a TA (e.g., first time TA, time management) to evidence-based teaching practices (e.g., active learning, culturally responsive instruction).

See the TIIP events calendar for upcoming events and register.

Teaching with Technology

The Teaching with Technology certificate program includes workshops on how to intentionally incorporate software, programs, and other technologies in the classroom. Topics typically range from introductions to software (e.g., Canvas, PowerPoint teaching tools) to methods for improving digital accessibility (e.g., Universal Design for Learning). Workshops within this series are primarily presented by a team from Rutgers University Online Education Services.

See the TIIP events calendar for upcoming events and register.

*Note: In addition to TIIP’s Teaching with Technology workshops, several other campus units offer workshops, consultations, and/or tutorials covering various apps and platforms. While we encourage you to explore the following opportunities for your own professional development, they are not eligible to count towards the four sessions for the Teaching with Technology certificate from TIIP.

  • Digital Classroom Services (DCS): Provides video tutorials on classroom technologies (including the technology in Rutgers classrooms), along with consultations
  • University Online Education Services (UOES): Provides the Online Teaching Essentials Series program, resource library, custom workshops, and services for online course development
