Overview

The Teaching & Learning Community for Graduate Students and Postdocs is the successor of the longstanding Rutgers Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (RASTL), which started within the School of Graduate Studies. Now spearheaded by TIIP, this community offers an intergenerational space where graduate students and postdocs come together to meet their peers, faculty, and staff to discuss the scholarship of teaching and learning and other relevant teaching topics in higher education. By joining and participating in the Teaching & Learning Community, you will:

  • Develop an understanding of cutting-edge research on pedagogy
  • Gain both general and discipline-specific perspectives on teaching
  • Build presentation and discussion facilitation skills by leading sessions

All community members participate in regular meetings and lead discussions on selected journal articles and teaching topics. Additionally, graduate student and postdoc members offer peer support to one another, while faculty and staff members serve on the Mentorship Team to provide guidance and mentorship.

Meeting Schedule

This community will meet virtually, on a monthly basis, throughout the fall and spring semesters. The goal and agenda of each session is determined by the members of the community. Recent topics discussed include the relevance of reading materials in syllabi, the merits of discussion boards for asynchronous classes, and navigating generative artificial intelligence tools.
