Teaching Non-Major Students: Challenges and Possibilities
April 11 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Presented by the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning as part of the University of Equity and Inclusion’s Classroom Inclusivity Series:
From Introduction to Academic Writing to General Chemistry: Nearly every academic study requires their students to take mandatory classes, particularly at the introductory level. Throughout our own teaching careers and in our positions as educational developers, we have seen both the potential but also challenges that might come with these classes and the heterogenous group of students attending them. Hence, we developed a 90-minute synchronous online workshop that allows participants to brainstorm possible ways to effectively engage a diverse student-body. As a next step, participants will start developing or redesigning assessments based on the previous brainstorming activity.
Audience: University-wide (recommended for Instructors/Faculty, Staff)
