Navigating the Blank Search Box: Not All Generative AI is Doing the Same Job

Type the same question in a library database with AI search built in and in ChatGPT, and you’ll often get very different answers, not because one is “better,” but because they’re built to find different things. This workshop looks at what’s shaping the results you see when you use generative AI for research: what gets included, what gets left out, and why that can change depending on which tool you’re using. It’s a practical look at reading your search results with a more critical eye, with room for questions and discussion along the way.

This session can be applied toward Competency 3 of the Teaching and Generative AI Pathways Program and is open to Rutgers University staff and instructors of all ranks, appointment types, and disciplines.
