2026 Academic Freedom Teaching Workshop

This workshop provides an overview of Rutgers University’s policies and other resources related to academic freedom and explains the difference between academic freedom and free speech. We provide guidance for instructors on how to apply this understanding to the classroom and how to effectively facilitate civil classroom dialogue and conversations about controversial topics.
